Continuum Health Partners, Inc Training Center is an official training site of the American Heart Association (AHA). All emergency training courses we offer are in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by the AHA, and taught by AHA instructors. These courses can be arranged here at Beth Israel Medical Center or at your location. Everyone is strongly encouraged to participate in one of the listed CPR courses.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider Course

Course Description

The BLS Health Care Provider Course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages (including performing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED); and relief of Foreign-Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO). It is intended for participants who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital.

Intended Audience

Physicians, Nurses, Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians, Respiratory Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physician's Assistants, Residents/Fellows, or Medical/Nursing students in training, Aides, Police Officers, and other allied health personnel.

Course Length: 4.5 hours of instruction for the entry level course and 3.5 hours for the recertification course
Written/Skills Exam: Required for course completion card
Note: For recertification a current/non-expired card is required.

Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider Course

Course Description

The ACLS Provider Course provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. Clinicians are expected to learn and manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, four types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and asystole), four types of pre-arrest emergencies (bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes) and stroke.

Intended Audience

Emergency Staff Personnel, Intensive Care or Critical Care Departments; Emergency Medical Providers such as Physicians, Nurses, Emergency Technicians, Paramedics, Respiratory Therapists and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency.

Course Length: 13.5 hours of instruction for the entry level course and 6.5 hours for the recertification course
Written/Skills Exam: Required for course completion card
Note: For recertification a current/non-expired card is required.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Course

Course Description

The PALS course provides students with essential knowledge and skills to efficiently assess and successfully manage critically ill infants and children. Students will be instructed on the following:

♥    Information needed to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest.
♥    Information and strategies needed to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children.
♥   The cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock or cardiopulmonary arrest.

Intended Audience

Pediatricians, Medical Students, Pediatric Fellows, Emergency Physicians, Family Physicians, Nurses, Paramedics, Respiratory Therapists, and other health care providers who are responsible for the well-being of infants and children.

Course Length: 14 hours of instructions for the entry level course and 7 hours for the recertification class
Written/Skills Exam: Required for course completion card
Note: For recertification a current/non-expired card is required.

Non Healthcare Provider classes

Baby-Saver CPR

This four-hour program targets new parents and grandparents; however, any and all individuals who are caring for children from birth to eight years of age are strongly encouraged to attend. This course addresses the following topics:

♥  Choking: How to prevent it and what to do when it occurs?
♥  How to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a child?
♥  What is SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)?
♥  Child safety, accident prevention, childproofing your home, and what to do in drowning situations.

Heartsaver CPR/AED

This course teaches CPR to non-healthcare providers and instructs the proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). This course includes diverse learning opportunities, instructor-led discussion to reinforce the signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking. This course features instructor-led practice scenarios and peer practice sessions.
