Thank you for your interest in our Electrophysiology Fellowship here at Beth Israel Medical Center. The Electrophysiology Fellowship at BIMC is an ACGME-approved one-year program. The Electrophysiology service performs consultative, invasive, and interventional services in the hospital, and device implantation and follow-up both in-hospital and in the outpatient setting. A full didactic program exists in conjunction with the Cardiovascular Fellowship training program. The Fellow will be exposed to the complete spectrum of Electrophysiology, including advanced EKG interpretation; pacemaker, CRT, and ICD indications, implantations and interrogation; pharmacological and interventional treatment for complex arrhythmias; and advanced diagnostic approaches and ablation procedures for complex heart rhythm abnormalities. Participation in research is a requirement of the program.
Over the one-year training in Cardiac Electrophysiology, Fellows will:
- To understand the array of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures available in adult Electrophysiology Laboratory.
- To understand the specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and how the specifically applied in the diagnostic and treatment of the range of cardiovascular disease.
- To understand the limitations and potential risks associated with the use of the procedures available in the Electrophysiology Laboratory, and how to manage critical patients and complications during, and after invasive procedures.
- In both the acute and long-term and post-procedure management and follow-up patients who have had diagnostic and invasive procedures.
- To understand the place of research in Electrophysiology Laboratory in the development of new procedures, techniques and devices.
- Acquire proficiency in performing and interpreting: nuclear stress tests, echocardiograms, CT of the heart, invasive and non-invasive angiography, intra-aortic balloon pump, heart monitoring, diagnostic Electrophysiology, holter and event monitors, ECGs, temporary and permanent pacemaker and ICDs management.
